Case Study

Tyler Independent School District Research Study

This rigorous study compared impacts between students whose teachers implemented Reading Horizons Discovery® and those whose teachers did not implement the program during the 2021–2022 school year. Both implementation integrity and student outcomes were measured by the Reading Horizons Implementation Integrity Rubric and the DIBELS 8 assessment, respectively. Students receiving Reading Horizons Discovery® instruction demonstrated a positive effect size of .31, a substantively important positive effect, according to What Works Clearinghouse Evidence Standards.

With exposure to the Reading Horizons method, average student growth was more than double that of students without exposure.

Phonics has been ignored way too long. Reading Horizons has been extremely well-received by our faculty and students. Their tech support has been amazing and their training has been exceptional.

P. Nielson, Instructional Coach, Weber School District, UT

We implemented Reading Horizons last year and our reading scores increased so much that we were in the top five schools in the state for growth with our 1st-3rd grade Acadience scores. We attribute much of this growth to using Reading Horizons curriculum and software.

S. Tayrien, Instructional Coach, GreenWood Charter School, UT

Reading Horizons has made a HUGE impact. My teachers feel so empowered to be teaching reading very explicitly, systematically, and sequentially. They feel that they finally have a resource to help them know how to teach reading in a simple way that makes sense to their students. RH is very engaging, and our students feel so empowered in learning the reading skills. We love RH!

J. Ross, Instructional Coach, Lakeview Elementary School, UT

The power of Reading Horizons became evident when our DIBELS benchmark results showed a 2% GAIN in proficiency in first graders from the middle of the year last year to the beginning of the year this year as second graders.  We know it is due to the strong foundation that this program provides.

C. Wagner, District Curriculum Specialist, Wagner School District, UT

Foundational Literacy for Older Students: Catching Up. Keeping Up. Moving Ahead.

Nearly 66% of fourth- and eighth-grade learners perform below proficient achievement levels in reading. For students grades 4 and beyond who struggle with reading, the path ahead can be difficult and discouraging. For striving readers, newcomers, and students with special needs, we can do more and do it better. And that’s the focus of this edWebinar.

For many teachers, the science of reading feels overwhelming because it’s so… different. As you teach, it’s hard to know for sure if you’re getting it “right.”

You shouldn’t have to figure it out on your own. When you join The Science of Reading Collective, you won’t have to. It’s free to join!
