Boost Foundational Reading Skills in Your Alabama School District

As an education leader in Alabama, you know how vital it is to help students achieve reading proficiency by the end of third grade through the Alabama Literacy Act. And the need goes beyond that with English language learner (ELL) instruction and reading intervention in grades four and above.

At Reading Horizons, we follow the science of reading to provide a foundational reading program that is simple for teachers, effective for students, and gives teachers the confidence to teach anyone to read.

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Schedule a Call with your Alabama Reading Horizons representative.

Case Study

Opelika City Schools Evidence Brief

During the 2021–2022 academic year, Opelika City Schools in Opelika, Alabama, implemented the Reading Horizons Discovery® curriculum, which features the Reading Horizons® method based on the science of reading, with 854 students across 80 classrooms in grades K–3.

The results of the study exploring the relationship between implementation and outcomes demonstrates that the Reading Horizons® method, as is implemented via its K–3 literacy solutions, meets the What Works Clearinghouse ESSA Tier 3 requirements—Promising Evidence.

Average student growth from the middle to the end of the year was significantly higher for students in classrooms where teachers scored higher on the rubric.

The new innovative software feature for teachers takes out excuses. It provides immediate feedback from data to drive small-group instruction and differentiated materials to use within those groups. Those materials challenge the higher students while providing more explicit instruction for the students needing more support.

Foundational Literacy for Older Students: Catching Up. Keeping Up. Moving Ahead.

Nearly 66% of fourth- and eighth-grade learners perform below proficient achievement levels in reading. For students grades 4 and beyond who struggle with reading, the path ahead can be difficult and discouraging. For striving readers, newcomers, and students with special needs, we can do more and do it better. And that’s the focus of this edWebinar.
